Overview
Every student enrolled for in-person education at Buford Academy receives music instruction for one semester per academic year, either in the fall or in the spring. When enrolled in Music, the student will be scheduled to have a 45-minute lesson within a 4-day rotation.
Our classes are aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Music and focus on music literacy, proficiency in singing and playing instruments, and displaying creativity through guided composition techniques. Grading System
All students in grades 1-3 will receive two grades for Music class:
- one grade for CONDUCT
- one grade based on their level of PARTICIPATION.
Though numerical grades are entered for the level of participation, the end result will be one of the following:
85-100 = Satisfactory
70-84 = Needs Improvement
69 and below = Unsatisfactory
If a student has a behavior or discipline issue, a sticker like this will appear in his/her agenda.
Students earn 10 pts. for every Music class attended. Students who receive a sticker earn no points for that day. Student grades are calculated by the number of points earned divided by the number of points possible. (Absences do not count against a student.) Grades won't be final until the end of the semester.
Benchmark Music Test
All students in grades 1-3 will be given a Benchmark Test at the end of the semester of Music. (In addition, 2nd graders will be given a pre-test on the 2nd week of class.) These scores DO NOT factor into a student's Music grade and are only for the purposes of reviewing my teaching and your child's learning.
Once completed, the student will receive information on the % of correct responses. Again, these scores DO NOT factor into a student's Music grade. Please feel free to email me with any other questions or concerns you might have with regards to these scores.
Due to our current situation because of the COVID-19 virus, all Benchmark Music Tests have been suspended.
